Your Journey Starts Here

How Do I Get Certified?

Getting your Open Water certification is easier than you might think - just three straightforward steps from learning the basics to making your first open water dives.

Three Steps to Your Open Water Certification

We break the process into manageable stages so you can learn at your own pace, build your skills with an instructor, and finish with real open water experience.

01

Online Learning

Your certification journey begins with online learning. The eLearning typically takes 4–6 hours to complete, and you can work through it at your own pace.

You'll move through short, easy-to-understand learning modules with questions throughout, plus videos to help bring the material to life. You can also choose the language you'd like to learn in.

Learn on your schedule.
Complete the theory from home, at your own pace, before moving on to your in-person training.
02

Shop & Pool Training

Next, you'll spend a full day with us at the shop and pool. We run these training days on Saturdays, usually 1–2 times per month.

The day starts in the morning and runs until approximately 6 PM, with plenty of time for breaks. You'll spend about 2 hours at the shop completing your gear orientation, paperwork and equipment sizing before heading to the pool for approximately 5 hours of in-water training.

Once you complete Step 2, you're ready for your open water checkout dives.

Steps 1 + 2 = Your Open Water Referral

We combine the first two steps into one course called the Open Water Referral Course. You can book Steps 1 and 2 together online or in-store. Once you choose your shop date and check out, you'll receive access to your online learning.

After completing Steps 1 and 2, you'll have the required documented paperwork as a certified referral diver and can move on to your open water checkout dives.

03

Open Water Checkout Dives

The final step is getting into real open water with an instructor. All divers must complete their open water checkout dives with an instructor before receiving their full certification.

Our standard open water checkout dives take place over one weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at Gullivers Lake in Flamborough, Ontario.

Depending on weather and conditions, we may also complete checkout dives at Humber Bay West in Toronto.

This is where it all comes together.
Put your training into practice, complete your required skills and experience the underwater world for real.
