What is the Open Water Diver Course?

The SSI Open Water Diver certification is your ticket to dive anywhere, from tropical reefs to local wrecks. The course combines three parts:

  1. Knowledge Development – Complete online eLearning at your own pace to learn the basics of scuba safety, equipment, and dive planning.

  2. Confined Water Training – Practice skills in a pool with one of our experienced instructors. You’ll master everything from mask clearing to buoyancy control.

  3. Open Water Dives – Put it all together on four open water dives, either locally in Ontario or on a referral while you’re on vacation.

  • Dive independently with a buddy to depths of 18 metres (60 feet).
