Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who this course is for?
A: Certified rebreather divers on another unit who wish to learn how to dive a FATHOM Gemini CCR.
Q: What is the prerequisite for IANTD CCR FATHOM GEMINI DIVER CROSSOVER Course?
A: Certified on another CCR and have 12 CCR dives of which one (1) must have been within 45 days of the program on the new CCR.
Q: What is the course structure?
A: It is a minimum 3-day course. We will build the unit, fit it on your harness and perform all the necessary tests on the first day. Then we need a minimum of 200 minutes of dive time on the FATHOM Gemini CCR in the next two days.
Q: Which sidemount systems are compatible with FATHOM Gemini CCR?
A: Razor, Xdeep Stealth 2.0 Rec/Tec and Hollis Katana 2 work well with Gemini. If you use anything else, please contact your instructor to make sure your harness is compatible with Gemini.
Q: Do I need prior sidemount training for this course?
A: Yes. Otherwise, your Gemini course could potentially become an open circuit sidemount course. You need to have proper technical sidemount training and good fundamental skills for this course. The whole course is built upon your open circuit sidemount skills.
Q: Where can I find more information about FATHOM Gemini CCR?
A: FATHOM has a product page for configuration.
https://www.fathomdive.com/product/fathom-gemini-ccr/
Q: Do I need to purchase my own CCR for the course?
A: Yes, unless you have access to a unit. We do recommend that you come to the course with your own unit. Just like sidemount, a sidemount rebreather is highly customized and tailored to yourself. Having your own unit will maximize the learning outcome. We do not have a rental unit currently.
Q: How much does a new FATHOM Gemini CCR cost?
A: A brand new FATHOM Gemini CCR is USD $7695 equipped with DSV and Petrel 3 as standard
Q: Can I buy a used FATHOM Gemini CCR?
A: Yes. If you decide to buy one, it is highly recommended that you have it serviced before the course. The instructor will also need to inspect the unit before the start of the course. It’s hard to find a used Gemini on the market, as it’s only been around for a year. Plus, almost all owners love it!
Q: How much is the course and what does it include?
A: The course fee is $2400 plus tax based on a class of 2 or 3 for a 6-day course. It includes the training and certification fee after successfully completing the course.
Q: What is the extra cost for this course?
A: Here are some examples of potential extra charges for the course:
- eLearning
- Any rental you might need.
- Air and Nitrox fills are included in the course fee, but O2 or Trimix fills are extra.
- Boat charter fee if we need to hire a boat. The instructor’s charter fee will be shared with the whole class.
