I'm not the greatest swimmer in the world...is it hard to get certified?? I've heard some people jsut can' do it because they freak out but I think it would be fun to try I just don'r know how difficult it is to do.

Getting a certification is not difficult, if you are comfortable in the water. You don't need to be an expert swimmer to dive. I'm sure a dive shop in your area has introduction to diving nights at the local pool, these are a good opportunity to try it!
